A homeowner in Greendale, WI, had an unfinished basement that he wanted to transform into a functional living space. Since purchasing the home in 2014, the homeowner and his family had occasionally experienced minor water issues in the basement, although they were not a consistent problem. Despite these concerns, Jim envisioned turning the basement into a recreation area, exercise room, and home office.
Initially, the homeowner considered adding a full bath to the basement. However, he decided instead to focus on maximizing the existing space and converting a half bath on the main floor into a full bath. The primary goal was to create a comfortable and practical environment for his family while addressing the basement's occasional water issues.
Our team approached the project by first addressing the moisture problem to ensure a dry and comfortable basement. We installed a Sanidry system to control humidity and prevent future water damage. To enhance the basement's aesthetics and functionality, we incorporated a painted ceiling and ThermalDry Elite Plank Flooring in Walnut, covering two-thirds of the 629-square-foot area. Additionally, recessed can lights were installed to provide ample lighting throughout the space.
By transforming the basement into a versatile area that includes a recreation space, an exercise room, and a home office, we were able to meet the homeowners needs without the addition of a new bathroom. The updated basement now serves as a beautiful, functional space that combines practicality and style, allowing the homeowner and his family to enjoy their home to the fullest.
